Treat this one as purely a rumour for now, but could Jena Malone be set to play Carrie Kelley in Zack Snyder’s upcoming BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE? Those particular rumours first rose their head a few months ago and are now back in force.

Best known for the likes of DONNIE DARKO and THE HUNGER GAMES, the actress also worked with Snyder on SUCKER PUNCH. She was seen on the BATMAN V SUPERMAN set back in August, with it played off that she was just visiting Snyder. What’s set these latest rumours off is that the actress has taken to her Instagram account to show off her newly-died red hair. The basic logic of certain quarters is that Carrie Kelley appears in Frank Miller’s iconic THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS as Robin. THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS is set to be a major influence on Snyder’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN. Carrie Kelley has red hair. Jena Malone now has red hair. Could this really just be mere coincidence huge or a huge case of 2 + 2 = 5? I guess we’ll find out, but here’s that Instagram picture for you to have a look at it.

The above image was accompanied with, “Drastic times call for drastic measures.” Could the drastic times in question be that Malone is taking on the mantle of the Caped Crusader’s famed sidekick? We’re leaning against that for now, although anything is possible at this stage.

From previous reports, we already know that this latest cinematic version of Batman will have a strained relationship with an adult Dick Grayson, the first Robin. Many logical types thought that, if we were to see a Robin in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, it would be Tim Drake, which would be fine by us. This rumour of Malone as Carrie Kelley just doesn’t seem to want to go away, but be sure to just treat it as exactly that – a rumour – for now. That said, there’s been talks from both DC and Marvel about how they want to focus on strong female characters in their cinematic worlds. Could a female Robin be the start of that for Warner Brothers and DC?

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is currently set for a March 25th, 2016 release.
