As Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice gets ready to hit the big screen later this month, news has now come out that Jena Malone has been completely cut from the theatrical release of the film.

EW has the scoop, revealing that Malone’s mystery character will only be present in the extended R-rated cut that has been confirmed for a Blu-ray release later this year. Now Malone’s role may be a secret, unconfirmed one at this point, but it’s believed that she’s playing… *spoilers ahead*

SPOILERS

Still with us? Right, good stuff. Where were we? Ah, Jena Malone’s mystery Batman v Superman role, of course. It’s believed that Malone’s secret role is that of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, aka Oracle. It’s not entirely clear what moniker Babs is going by at this point in time, whether it’s the carefree Batgirl or the wheelchair-bound Orcale who has been paralyzed by The Joker.

In addition to Malone being cut from the theatrical release of the film, it’s also being reported that Batman v Superman will feature several dream sequences for both Batman and Superman throughout the movie, leading many to believe that this is all being done to tease Darkseid as a villain for down the line. We’ve kind of known that for a little while now, but this latest scoop claims that the nefarious ruler of Apokolips could very well make an appearance in Dawn of Justice in some form.

Added to this, there’s also one particular dream sequence that sees Ezra Miller’s Flash deliver a message to Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight. What’s interesting here, though, is that this will be an ambiguous scene, with it unknown whether it really is a dream or if the Scarlet Speedster has actually travelled back in time to deliver a warning to the Caped Crusader of what’s ahead for the Justice League.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in cinemas on March 25th.
