It was only earlier that week that the rumour of Jena Malone playing Carrie Kelley in Zack Snyder’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE rose its head again. Now comes confirmation, via The Hollywood Reporter, that the actress has indeed signed on for the film in a mystery role. As well as appearing in the likes of DONNIE DARKO and THE HUNGER GAMES, Malone worked with director Snyder on SUCKER PUNCH. Could it be that this unknown role will indeed turn out to be Carrie Kelley?

From previous reports, we already know that this latest cinematic version of Batman will have a strained relationship with an adult Dick Grayson, the first Robin. Many logical types thought that, if we were to see a Robin in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, it would be Tim Drake, which would be fine by us. This rumour of Malone as Carrie Kelley just doesn’t seem to want to go away, and the actress’ participation in the film will only add further fuel to the fire. Previously, there’s been talks from both DC and Marvel about how they want to focus on strong female characters in their cinematic worlds. Could a female Robin be the start of that for Warner Brothers and DC? After all, BATMAN V SUPERMAN is said to pull a lot of elements from Frank Miller’s iconic THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, in which Carrie Kelley becomes Robin to a grizzled, older Caped Crusader.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is currently set for a March 25th, 2016 release.
