Over the last few months, the cast of John Stockwell’s KICKBOXER reboot has been slowly coming together. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Dave Bautista, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST’s Alain Moussi, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER’s Georges St-Pierre and ONG-BAK’s Tony Jaa were the names initially going to be cracking skulls in the redo, but now comes word of a change of plan.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Tony Jaa has had to pull out of the film due to a scheduling conflict. Taking over from he will be the legendary Muscles from Brussels himself, not to mention star of the original KICKBOXER, Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Plot-wise, the film will focus on Moussi’s Kurt Sloan on a mission to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Bautista’s big bad. Sloan needs to learn the secrets of the kickboxer in order to get his revenge. Van Damme will be playing his mentor, a play on the Master Chow character from the 1989 original.

Shooting is due to start later this week in New Orleans, before the production moves to Thailand later in the year.
