We were all wondering where that tease in the Season 1 finale of The Flash was going to lead to, and it’s now been confirmed that Jay Garrick will indeed be a part of the Scarlet Speedster’s second season.

In a moment that had long time comic book fans grinning from ear to ear, the classic helmet of Garrick briefly appeared towards the conclusion of The Flash’s debut season. When executive producer Geoff Johns was asked about Jay’s helmet during the DC Entertainment: From Page to Screen panel at San Diego Comic-Con, he revealed, “That’s not an Easter egg, that’s a story point. We’re going to see Jay.”

It had previously been teased that we may see some other Flashes in Season 2 of the Grant Gustin-starring show, and now we’ve got confirmation that Jay Garrick will be appearing at some point during the show’s second year.

In the comic book world, Garrick is the straight-up inspiration for Barry Allen to become The Flash; Barry would read an issue of a Flash comic book starring Jay and eventually decide to take the moniker as his own. The pair would inhabit parallel Earths but would eventually meet up and become friends.

The Flash makes its return to US screens on October 6th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
