Remember those rumours of a possible Dick Grayson appearance in BATMAN V SUPERMAN? At the time, many months ago, it was said that Adam Driver was up for the role of an adult Grayson who was estranged from the Dark Knight. Whilst Dick may end up making some sort of appearance or at least get a mention in the film, nobody has really said much about Batman’s second Robin, Jason Todd. Well, it looks as if there could very well be plans in place for Jason…

Latino Review’s Umberto Gonzalez, who is usually on the money with his scoops, claims that Jason is already dead at this jumping-in point for the DC Cinematic Universe’s Batman. The story claims, “Jason Todd’s uniform is in a display case inside the Batcave! In fact, The Joker and Harley Quinn are estranged in SUICIDE SQUAD because she feels guilt over the death of Todd. I’m also told that the RED HOOD is now a priority character for DC. One more thing, John Wick directors Chad Stahelski & David Leith being courted to direct DC film.”

So could it be that the DCCU already has initial plans in place for the resurrection of Jason Todd as Red Hood? We know that Warner Brothers’ plan is to introduce a whole host of characters across both BATMAN V SUPERMAN and SUICIDE SQUAD, but surely it would be a bit much to be thinking of Jason’s return already. We mean, his return is something that was done brilliantly in the comic book world, with the situation given a true sense of meaning, brevity and gravitas down to how long the whole thing took – Jason was essentially dead from 1988 (at the hands of The Joker, a crowbar and a bomb) until technically 2005. And for those years, Bruce Wayne endlessly struggled with the guilt of Todd’s death, making it all more impactful when Jason turned up in Gotham City once more.

In fairness, DC’s current cinematic slate runs until around 2020, so any particular Jason-centric film would have to wait until after then, but still… it just feels maybe a little too soon to be thinking that far ahead, especially when there’s not even officially a solo Batman film announced at this stage.

It goes without saying, but treat this as a rumour for now and expect to hear more if/when it develops.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is set for a March 25th, 2015 release, with SUICIDE SQUAD hitting on August 5th, 2016.
