Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has got a major new addition in the form of Jason O’Mara coming in to play the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

O’Mara is likely best known in live-action for efforts such as Life on Mars, The Good Wife and Vegas, but many genre fans will be familiar with him for voicing Batman in the animated likes of Justice League: War, Son of Batman, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood and Justice League vs. Teen Titans.

The character who O’Mara is playing is being kept a little under wraps right now, although it’s apparently somebody who has existed in the Marvel world since the 1940s. Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb teased, “Bringing Jason into the mix as the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to re-evaluate their role in the Agency. Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will debut its fourth season on September 20th.
