It was only last week that Joseph Kosinski teased that TRON 3 wasn’t completely dead – in fact, “in cryogenic freeze” was the term used by the TRON: Legacy director – and now comes an interesting new development on that front.

As well as discussing his hope of a third TRON movie last week, Kosinski also mentioned how he’d hoped to get Jared Leto involved in the follow-up to Legacy. Well, now it’s being reported that Leto is actually looking to get this third movie moving once more.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Leto is interested in having the film – originally titled TRON: Ascension – move back into development. As per the initial plans, the Oscar winner would play a character called Ares, who is ominously named after the Greek god of war.

For Ascension, the plan was to have that film follow Garrett Hedlund’s Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde’s Quorra on the standard reality of Earth, with the movie to play out as an invasion-esque picture that sees those from within The Grid make their way to the regular streets.

Expect more on this if and when it develops.
