With Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones teaming up with Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist later this year for The Defenders, now comes a casting addition for Season 2 of Jones’ own show.

Marvel Television and Netflix have moved to announce Janet McTeer as joining Marvel’s Jessica Jones in a to-be-confirmed role. While the role itself is being kept under wraps for now, we do know that McTeer’s character will be one that has a huge impact on Jessica’s life. As for the Golden Globe-winning actress, McTeer is best known for the likes of Tumbleweeds, Me Before You and Albert Nobbs.

On this news, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb said, “We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg added, “We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season. Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”

Season 2 of Marvel’s Jessica Jones has yet to be given a confirmed premiere date at this early stage, but Ritter’s Jessica will be next seen when Marvel’s The Defenders assembles its titular heroes on August 18th.
