Hot on the heels of the news of The Saint getting another remake, CBS has announced that they’ve brought in James Wan to direct the pilot episode of a MacGyver reboot.

We’re all huge fans of Wan here at Moonbase Alpha, with the talented director having helmed genre favourites like the original Saw, the first two Insidious movies, The Conjuring and its sequel (currently in cinemas), and, err, Fast 7 (we may mock the ‘fast cars and big explosions’ movie, but the film took well over $1 billion last year). Wan was previously on board to helm the MacGyver redo but dropped out due to post-production on The Conjuring 2. As a result, David Von Ancken was brought in to oversee the pilot. CBS weren’t too keen on Von Ancken’s take and so have moved to bring Wan back into the fold, with the network having already picked the show up for a full season.

The official blurb on this new MacGyver, which will star Lucas Till, George Eds and Justin Hires, reads:

MacGyver now creates a clandestine organisation within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Eads will play a new character, maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton, who joins MacGyver to team on high-risk missions around the globe. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip. Hires plays MacGyver’s ambitious roommate, Wilt Bozer, who entertains him at home.

Expect more on this as it develops.
