With James Wan’s The Conjuring 2 officially released in the UK next week, the director has talked up the possibility of potentially more sequels to follow for Ed and Elaine Warren.

As reported by Variety, Wan was asked about any further Conjuring movies during the LA premiere of the film. The director of Saw, two Insidious movies and now two Conjuring movies teased, “It depends on what happens this weekend. There could be many more movies because the Warrens have so many stories.”

Given that the two Conjuring movies to date draw on the real-life experience of the Warrens, that means that there’s a whole host of possibilities when it comes to doing further films in the series. In fact, screenwriting twins Chad and Carey Hayes, who penned both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, have gone on record to talk about how they “definitely have a third in mind.”

As Wan mentioned, these things all depend on how well something does. Basically, if The Conjuring 2 is a success, expect a sequel. Much like with the Insidious franchise, these films are relatively low risk to make in terms of cost, meaning it’s easy to make a nice chunk of profit. Added to that, Wan’s The Conjuring was one of the very best horrors of the past decade, and the sequel doesn’t look to shabby itself.
