This past weekend saw it revealed that Resident Evil: The Final Chapter wasn’t actually the final chapter after all, as the franchise was now to be rebooted. In an update on this situation, it’s been revealed that James Wan will be overseeing this redo.

As per Deadline, Wan will act as a producer on this reboot, with Greg Russo on board to pen the film’s screenplay. Russo has recently worked on the screenplay for Wan’s upcoming, long-gestating Mortal Kombat reboot.

Additionally, Variety reports that the current plan is for this reboot to actually consist of six further movies based around a totally new cast of characters. Constantin Film is also producing the rejig alongside Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, with the search now on for a director.

The Resident Evil franchise is the most successful big screen video game adaptation of all time, having taken over $1.2 billion from the six RE films to date.
