It was rumoured a month or so ago, but it’s been officially announced that James Wan will be directing the upcoming Aquaman movie.

Wan’s best known to genre fans for helming the likes of Saw, Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2 and The Conjuring, and he’s also just directed the huge box office smash that was Furious 7.

On the news of Wan directing Aquaman, Warner Brothers’ Greg Silverman said, “We’ve been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line’s The Conjuring and now on their upcoming The Conjuring 2, and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate. The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’ span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.”

Wan will be directing from a script by 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire’s Kurt Johnstad, and Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder are producing. Aquaman himself will be played by Game of Thrones and Conan’s Jason Momoa, with the character making his debut in next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Aquaman is currently set for a July 27th, 2018 release.
