A spate of rumours earlier this year suggested that the events of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 would tie directly to the two-part AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. GUARDIANS director James Gunn has planned down the idea of the two teams crossing over any time soon.

Speaking to Screen Junkies, Gunn said, “We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don’t think people should assume too many things about the Guardians’ play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s going to happen.”

In case you missed it, the earlier rumours suggested that the end up next year’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON would see the Hulk fired off into space. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 would then see the Green Goliath meet the Guardians team, with Star-Lord and his ragtag bunch of misfits spending that film trying to get Hulk back to earth. With the Guardians proving successful in their task, their presence would bring Thanos to earth to set things up for INFINITY WAR. That’s purely speculation, though, and Gunn is now doing his best to play down any suggestions of an imminent crossover of the Avengers and Guardians teams.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is released in the UK on April 24th, with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 currently set to hit UK screens on April 28th, 2017.
