In some interesting news, CBS’ upcoming Star Trek: Discovery has brought in James Frain to play Sarek, better known to many as the father of Mister Spock.

The Gotham and Orphan Black actor will be tackling a role previously played by Mark Lenard in the original series and several movies, and one that was played by Ben Cross in 2009’s movie reboot.

In some bad news, though, Discovery has once again been delayed from its supposed May premiere. Representatives of the series told The Hollywood Reporter, “Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”

As well as James Frain, the rest of the Star Trek: Discovery cast is made up of Sonequa Martin-Green as titular ship’s Lieutenant Commander, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, and Klingon roles for Mary Chieffo, Shazad Latif and Chris Obi.

Taking place a decade before the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS and then CBS All Access in the US, with the series to have a home on Netflix in the UK and a whole host of other countries.
