Casting announcements for Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux continue to roll in, with rising talent Jacob Lofland as the latest actor to come aboard, per a THR exclusive. He joins returning stars Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz, as well as Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine Keener, on the call sheet.

Phillips returns to direct and co-writes the script with Joker scribe Scott Silver, whose work on the Gotham-set film earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Specifics on the sequel are being kept locked up tight, though sources report it will have musical elements and be set in Arkham Asylum, the audience last saw Arthur Fleck (Phoenix).

Lady Gaga is thought to play Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn, the Arkham psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and becomes his partner in crime. Zazie Beetz is also returning to her role as Arthur’s (former) neighbour, Sophie.

Jacob Lofland will play a key supporting role as an inmate at Arkham Asylum who develops a relationship with Arthur Fleck/The Joker. Lofland recently starred opposite Martin Sheen and Luke Wilson in the sports biopic 12 Mighty Orphans, and also played a supporting role in the popular Maze Runner film series.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release in cinemas on October 4th, 2024.
