Genre favourite Jackie Earle Haley has landed a major villain role in AMC’s upcoming Preacher series.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that the actor is to play Odin Quincannon in this soon-to-be-arriving adaptation. Haley is best known for the likes of Shutter Island, Dark Shadows, RoboCop, A Nightmare on Elm Street and, of course, for playing the iconic Rorschach in Watchmen. As for the character of Odin Quincannon, the official description of the rogue has him classed as “a small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business”.

Haley joins a cast that features Dominic Cooper in the lead role of Jesse Custer, Joe Gilgun as hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, Ruth Negga as the trigger-happy Tulip, Ian Coletti as the wonderfully-named Arseface, W. Earl Brown as Sheriff Hugo Root, Lucy Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, and Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quincanoon.

Preacher is set to debut midway through this year.
