Just when you thought that the remake of The Crow was finally all smooth sailing…

After being dogged with problems and delays since its inception, the Crow remake has now lost its star, Jack Huston. The Boardwalk Empire actor was to play Eric Draven/The Crow in Corin Hardy’s upcoming redo.

Speaking to Variety, director Hardy said, “Just Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow. The Crow is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

Huston isn’t the first actor to leave the Eric Draven role behind, with The Hobbit’s Luke Evans previously attached to the gig for several months. Before that, there were talks of Bradley Cooper being lined up for the role but that never materialised despite plenty of Cooper-centric concept art being leaked out online (Google it).

Whilst Huston has now left the film, there has been an addition in the shape of Forest Whitaker in an unknown role.

The Crow itself began life as a four issue 1989 mini-series from James O’Barr before being adapted into a 1994 Brandon Lee-starring movie from Alex Proyas. Since then, along with various other comic books and graphic novels, there has been a TV series and three additional movies.

As far as this remake goes, expect more on this as it develops.
