Terry Brooks’ sci-fi-cum-fantasy series SHANNARA was courted by MTV for their own home-grown sword and sorcery series, unthinkable pre-GAME OF THRONES. Despite the initial buzz of excitement following the announcement last year, not a terrific amount has been fed through the pipeline since.

News from Variety, however, has revealed that none other than PAN’S LABYRINTH star Ivana Baquero is attached to the series, joining Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Manu Bennett and Aaron Jakubenko. Baquero is set to play Eretria, a cunning human who uses smarts to survive the magical Shannara clan.

The 10-part series is set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilisation. A future which boasts ancient magic, and follows the Shannara family who have the ability to tap into the magic and help remould the future. The show is based on THE ELFSTONES OF SHANNARA, being the second in Brooks’ series.

Given the near perfect PAN’S LABYRINTH, Baquero has more than earned her genre stripes, and is just another reason for us all to get excited. More details as we get them.
