With Injustice: Gods Among Us released back in 2013, the success of the DC beat-em-up saw a sequel immediately confirmed… only for things to then go ridiculously quiet on that front for the past few years. Well, now it looks as if an Injustice 2 could finally be on the way.

According to Gameblog.fr, NetherRealm Studios, the guys behind the original and the recent Mortal Kombat games, are planning Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 for a March 2017 release. Whilst this is still a rumour at this stage, with no official word on the sequel so far, it’s believed that the game will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The current belief is that we may even get an official announcement before this month’s E3 event.

The original Injustice took place in an alternate reality where Superman became a maniacal dictator intent on dominating the globe. What set the Man of Steel down this path? That’d be The Joker tricking the Last Son of Krypton into killing Lois Lane and their unborn child. Featuring characters from multiple Earths, Batman would lead a resistance against Superman’s reign of terror. Basically, whilst there was a plot for the game, it was essentially just an excuse to have various stages of beat-em-up action featuring characters like the aforementioned World’s Finest, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Shazam, Nightwing, The Joker, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Sinestro, Deathstroke, Catwoman, Killer Frost, and many more.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops.
