While it might not be an announcment as important as the greenlight of THE PRINCESS BRIDE’s long talked about sequel, BUTTERCUP’S BABY, this news should delight fans of the beloved 1987 fantasy film anyway: Disney Theatrical Productions have revealed plans to adapt William Goldman’s creation for the stage.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn had this to say on the project: “My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart. For all those years and a few more, I’ve been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true. It couldn’t be in better hands than those of the experienced Disney Theatrical team led by Tom Schumacher.”

William Goldman, who wrote the original book in 1973, will be involved in bringing his world to life in yet another medium.

If this proves a hit, expect that sequel you’ve been waiting for to be announced in no time at all. Until then, hit www.theprincessbrideonstage.com to register your interest.
