After having been on the big screen since 2000, Hugh Jackman’s run as the near-immortal Wolverine is nearing its closing moments. And as such, the actor himself has been giving his opinion on who should replace him when the time comes to hang up the famed adamantium claws.

Speaking to MTV News, Jackman said, “I haven’t really given it a lot of thought. I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know? I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor ‘Shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.’”

And when left to have a think about it, the actor continued, “He’s younger than me, for sure. I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.”

In case you wondered what Hardy may look like as Wolvie, our ever-excellent Grant Kempster has knocked up the below mock-up:

Of course, Tom Hardy is no stranger to a comic book property, having played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and also set to start in the upcoming 100 Bullets adaptation. And then there’s the fact that Hardy is one of the hottest names on the planet right now and is linked to every big role – most notably recently being placed as a frontrunner for the James Bond gig post-Daniel Craig.

At present, Jackman has turned out as Wolverine in seven different films to date. Added to that, he’s set to star in one final swansong for the character, which will be James Mangold’s sequel to The Wolverine. Then there’s talk that the character could also play some sort of role in X-Men: Apocalypse, the Ryan Reynolds-starring Deadpool and the Channing Tatum-led Gambit. So that’s a definite eight Logan outings at least, with the potential for eleven.

So, do you think Tom Hardy would be a good shout to take over the claws or is there someone else more suitable out there? Let us know in the comments section below.
