HBO has unveiled the latest trailer for its upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, ahead of its August 21st premiere.

The series comes from George R.R. Martin, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, and stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series finds the House Targaryen at the height of their power and ruling over the Seven Kingdoms — while also on the brink of a civil war within their own house.

Prior to the birth of a son, King Viserys (Considine) sent shockwaves through the kingdom and declared his daughter, Rhaenyra (D’Arcy), his heir. But once a healthy boy entered the picture, plans were soon afoot to ensure she would never rule – as Rhaenys Velaryon (Best) intones in the teaser, “Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne”.

Now, with schemes hatched on both sides and the kingdom in the balance, the prequel series will see how the house that dragons built was burned to the ground.

Judge not House of the Dragon for the sins of its predecessor (looking at you, season 8). This teaser actually looks very promising.
