With Paramount Pictures having spent the last little while developing a G.I. Joe spin-off picture for Snake Eyes, it looks as if that movie may well have found its sword-wielding badass.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Golding is in talks to play the lead role in Snake Eyes. Golding is likely best known for his turns in the likes of Crazy Rich Asians, The Gentlemen and Last Christmas.

In the history of the G.I. Joe property, Snake Eyes has always been seen as one of the coolest characters out there – be that in toys, comic books, animated shows, or even in the live-action G.I. Joe films. Where those films are concerned, genre fave Ray Park has played this mysterious martial arts master. One school of thought is that Snake Eyes will be a reboot of sorts not attached to the G.I. Joe movies that we’ve already seen – either way, Park will not be back in the role.

R.I.P.D.’s Robert Schwentke is on directing duties for Snake Eyes, with The Huntsman: Winter’s War’s Evan Spiliotopoulous working on the screenplay.

At this stage, Snake Eyes is set for a March 27th, 2020 release.
