It has to be said, Marvel Studios has certainly earned our trust by this point in the game. That said, we did raise an eyebrow or two at the news that Hank Pym wouldn’t be the focus of ANT-MAN or the Ant-Man character going forward in the MCU. Pym is one of the most complex and interesting characters in the Marvel comic book world, so it seemed like a hugely missed opportunity to go forward with the Scott Lang version of the character at such an early stage in the cinematic Ant-Man run. But fear not, for now comes word that Pym will be getting some time to shine after all.

Whilst it’s believed that we’ll see the younger Hank Pym in action in flashback moments in Peyton Reed’s ANT-MAN, now comes word, via Newsarama, that young Pym will be the focus of a two-part prequel comic book, titled ANT-MAN PRELUDE. Creative Research Director of Marvel Studios, Will Corona Pilgrim, will be penning the tale, with the story to be canonical to the MCU. Plot-wise, the two-part book will be set during the Cold War and will see Hank Pym going to the Berlin Wall. It’s also been confirmed that there will be some cameos from some other Marvel names, although we’ll have to wait to see just who will show up. Additionally, it’s expected that an AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON prelude comic is expected to be announced shortly, with that book to focus on Baron Strucker.

ANT-MAN will be released on July 17th, with Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang.
