We already know that a certain Darth Vader fella will be a part of Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but there’s also been plenty of speculation that Han Solo could feature in the film as well. Well, director Edwards has definitively confirmed that everyone’s favourite scruffy-looking nerf herder will not be a part of Rogue One.

Given how Rogue One is set between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars (or a New Hope to you younger sorts), it’s certainly a timeframe that would allow for Han to make an appearance, particularly with Hail, Caesar!’s Alden Ehrenreich having recently been cast to play a young Solo. Despite this, the loveable scoundrel won’t be turning up in Rogue One, though.

Speaking to Extra TV, Edwards confirmed, “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but I think I should. I can put to bed, Han Solo is not in the movie.”

Alden Ehrenreich has signed a three-picture deal to play a younger Han Solo, with him initially headlining his own Star Wars Story movie to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. That movie will be released on May 25, 2018, sandwiched between the release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII and Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX.

As for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the official word on that reads:

Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. Felicity Jones leads the cast as Jyn Erso alongside Mads Mikklesen who plays her father, Galen Erso. Diego Luna (Milk) stars as Captain Cassian Andor with Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II) as the blind spiritual warrior Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep) as his heavily armored best friend Baze Malbus,, Alan Tudyk (Firefly) as the droid K-2SO, Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions) as the Rebel pilot Bodhi Rook, plus Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as Saw Gerrera, a character first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Mississippi Grind) as the film’s main antagonist, Director Orson Krennic.

Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One will be released on December 16th.
