After a long and torturous wait, Netflix released the first trailer and announced the premiere date for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, a two-episodes-a-day, four-day event planned over the Halloween season, to debut on October 25th.

Del Toro has curated a collection of stories meant to challenge traditional conceptions of horror: “From macabre to original, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, these eight sophisticated and sinister tales (including two original stories by del Toro) are brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally selected by the Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker – including the twisted minds behind The Babadook, Mandy, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, and many more.

As we previously reported, the anthology’s entries are as follows:

The Babadook and The Nightingale director Jennifer Kent will write and direct the first episode, titled “The Murmuring”, based on an original story by del Toro, which will star Essie Davis, Hannah Galway, and The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln.

A short story by Michael Shea will be adapted in “The Autopsy” by The Dark Knight writer and The Sandman TV series creator David S. Goyer, and directed by David Prior. Its cast will include Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, Glynn Turman, and Luke Roberts.

Frequent del Toro collaborator Guillermo Navarro, who served as cinematographer on Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and Hellboy, will direct “Lot 36” written by Regina Corrado, which is in turn based on one of del Toro’s original stories. Watchmens Tim Blake Nelson will star alongside Elpidia Carrillo, Demetrius Grosse, and Sebastian Roché.

Two short stories by H.P. Lovecraft will be adapted: one, “Dreams in the Witch House”, written by Mika Watkins and directed by Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke, and the other, “Pickman’s Model”, written by Lee Patterson and directed by Keith Thomas. The former stars Rupert Grint, while the latter features Crispin Glover and Ben Barnes, of renewed Shadow and Bone fame.

Panos Cosmatos, who gifted us the beloved Nicholas Cage-starrer Mandywill also direct “The Viewing”, sharing writing credits with Aaron Stewart-Ahn. Peter Weller will star. Hannibal and Westworld director Vincenzo Natali will write and direct “Graveyard Rats” based on one of Henry Kuttner’s short stories, which will star David Hewlett.

Lastly, Haley Z. Boston will adapt a short story by comics author Emily Carroll to be directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, the talent behind the incredible Iranian vampire film, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. This episode is titled “The Outside”.
