Let’s face it, there are very few people in the world who aren’t fans of Guillermo del Toro. The man is a creative genius who brings a touch of the fantastical to everything he does. As such, excitement is high when it comes to any and all new projects for the director. And now comes word on what del Toro will be tackling next.

The director took to Twitter to reveal that he’ll be working on a movie of short terror tales based on Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Del Toro revealed, “I start development on a film based on a favourite book of youth: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark!”

The book itself is a massive favourite of many, being first published back in 1981 and going on to become a three-book series that followed up the original release with More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones. The initial book was illustrated by Stephen Gammell and featured over two dozen terrifying tales of horror. The director also added that Gammell’s imagery will be “preeminent in the film”.

At this early stage, there’s no news on casting, release plans or on exactly which tales del Toro will use for his feature, but expect more on this most awesome of news as we get it.
