In recent weeks, director James Gunn revealed that he’s got a deal in place to return for a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 – if it were to happen – and we’ve also seen some speculation on the plot for a potential sequel. Well now comes confirmation that a second GUARDIANS film will indeed happen, and it’s even been given one of the many release dates that Marvel Studios recently announced.

At San Diego Comic-Con (where else?), Marvel confirmed that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 will be released on 28th July, 2017. In addition, Gunn then took to Twitter to confirm that he’ll be writing and directing the sequel.

As for those plot rumours we alluded to, it was recently claimed that the end of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will see Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk shot off to space. GUARDIANS 2 will supposedly see the Green Goliath found by the Guardians, who will then undertake a mission to get the Hulk back to earth, with this all gaining the attention of Thanos and nicely dovetailing into THE AVENGERS 3. Treat all of this potential plot detail as purely speculation for now, though.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set to be released in the UK on Thursday, and you can find our review here.
