Rejoice despisers of pointless remakes and reboots, for good news is at hand.

It would seem that, for the time being at least, the GREMLINS reboot is no longer a priority. Why, you excitedly ask? “I think we just ran out of steam,” writer Seth Grahame-Smith has admitted to Entertainment Weekly.

After having pitched an idea to the original movies’ producer Steven Spielberg and writer Chris Columbus, BEETLEJUICE 2 scribe Grahame-Smith was at the stage where he was developing the project before it stalled. “It’s one of those things where everybody got so busy doing other things. It’s something I would love to come back to, but right now, Steven’s making two movies back to back and Chris Columbus is busy . We’re all taking a five-minute break on that”.

So it seems that plans for a GREMLINS reboot haven’t been abandoned entirely. However, a delay will cause such a project to lose momentum at the very least, in which time interest could very well wane. Original GREMLINS director Joe Dante said of the film’s sequel, GREMLINS 2, that he made it in such a way to make it difficult to make a GREMLINS 3.

He probably hadn’t counted on the dreaded malignant curse of the modern redundant reboot!
