Whilst Warner Brothers announced a whole boatload of movies for their DC Extended Universe, one picture that there’s been near-enough radio silence on is Green Lantern Corps. Well, now that film has found itself a writing team, plus one particular fan favourite Emerald Knight has been confirmed for the movie.

As reported by Deadline, The WB has moved to bring in David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes to pen the screenplay for the film. Goyer, of course, has a long history of working on comic book properties, having written the likes of The Crow: City of Angels, the Hoff-headlined Nick Fury: Agent of Shield, the Wesley Snipes-starring Blade trilogy, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then small screen efforts such as Blade: The Series and Constantine. As for Rhodes, he’s likely best known for his work on Contract Killers.

Given that the film is titled Green Lantern Corps., fans are obviously expecting to see a whole host of Lanterns featured in the movie, and now it’s been revealed that John Stewart is one such GL who will be appearing. The John Stewart character, created by the legendary duo of Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams, debuted back in 1971 and has long been rumoured be getting a big screen outing. In fact, back when George Miller was putting together the ultimately-doomed Justice League Mortal, rapper-turned-actor Common was cast as Stewart. In more recent years, the Fast & Furious franchise’s Tyreese Gibson has regularly been linked to the role. Early word has Green Lantern Corps. pinned as a buddy cop sort of movie mainly focussing on John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

At this point, Green Lantern Corps. is pencilled in for a July 24th, 2020 release.
