Yeoman Rand has left us,
Grace Lee Whitney, the beautiful actress with sparking blues eyes and platinum hair was born Mary Ann Chase on April 1st, 1930 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, began her entertainment career as a singer on radio station WJR in Detroit. Her talented voice led her to open at local clubs opening for Billie Holliday and drummer, Buddy Rich later touring with Red Ingles and with the zany Spike Jones around the country.
Soon the call to Hollywood came and a name change. Miss Whitney's first role was in the 1947 western, Mystery Range under the name of Ruth Whitney where she continued with her moniker finally changing it to Grace Lee Whitney.
Miss Whitney leaves a legacy of work behind having starred in some memorable roles in television such as The Unexpected, Wagon Train, two episodes of The Untouchables, Batman, The Roaring 20's, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke and as the love jilted, Carla Duveen in Controlled Experiment in The Outer Limits. Feature films included Top Banana, Irma La Douce and The Man from Galveston as Texas Rose.
But, it was her role as the beautiful, sultry voiced Yeoman Rand in Star Trek that propelled her to fame. Featured in eight episodes and Star Trek: The Motion Picture, she captured our hearts.
Miss Whitney attended Star Trek conventions around the world and was always gracious to her fans. She was as beautiful in person as she was on television.STARBURST sends our sympathy to her family and friends.
