With American Gods now in production, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s iconic novel has brought in Gillian Anderson to its ranks.

Variety is reporting that the X-Files actress has landed the role of Media, a supernatural publicist of sorts for the New Gods. This casting news sees Anderson re-teaming with Bryan Fuller, who she worked with on Hannibal and who is serving as writer, showrunner and executive producer on American Gods.

Starz and FremantleMedia North America are currently well into production on a ten-episode first season for the show, with shooting taking place in Toronto, Canada.

The official word on the show reads:

The plot of American Gods posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Already on board for the show are Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, and roles for Peter Stormare, Chris Obi, Cloris Leachman, and Mousa Kraish.
