Zombie godfather George A. Romero might not be as prolific as once he was, but he’s hardly resting on his laurels. While his son is busy expanding The Night of the Living Death universe, Romero will help develop his own Marvel Comics’ series Empire of the Dead for TV.

Production-finance company Demarest announced the news at Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, with Romero himself penning the series alongside long-time partner Peter Grunwald. Variety is reporting that the pair are also set to executive produce with Demarest’s own Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

The first issue of Empire of the Dead was released early last year, with Marvel’s official synopsis reading: “Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted—but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don’t think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!”
