Warner Brothers’ yet-to-be-confirmed Man of Steel sequel may be close to landing a director, if new reports are to be believed.

The man rumoured to be in the frame to direct Man of Steel 2 (although we’re sure WB will have a snazzier official title in place… how about Superman: We Want Our Red Pants Back?) is none other than Mad Max legend George Miller. As well as being best known for his Max Rockatansky work, Miller was also attached to direct the Justice League movie of the 2000s. You know, the one that cast all of its big stars and then had to pull the plug just before shooting. Whilst DJ Catrona was cast as Superman in that film, it could well be that Miller will be getting to work with Henry Cavill’s Kal-El at some point in the future.

The source of this news is Jon Schnepp – the very same Jon Schnepp who helmed the brilliant Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? documentary and who we spoke to for a fantastic (and joyously long) interview earlier this year.

On his Popcorn Talk show, Schnepp said, “George Miller, he’s doing Man of Steel 2. Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League 1 and 2, we already got James Wan doing Aquaman – Waterman, I think they should change the title – but yeah, I think George Miller is a perfect choice to do Man of Steel 2. He’s going to bring so much to it.”

Of course, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the follow-up to Man of Steel, but there have been plans in place for a straight-up second solo movie for the Last Son of Krypton for some time. The current slate for the DC Cinematic Universe has Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad arriving in 2016, then Wonder Woman and Justice League: Part 1 in 2017, with The Flash and Aquaman making waves in 2018, Shazam and Justice League: Part 2 for 2019, and Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps. for 2020. As well as those movies, there’s a supposed trilogy of Batfleck movies to fit in, with Affleck rumoured to be writing, directing and starring in The Batman for a 2018 release. On top of that, it looks as if we could now see another Superman movie slotted in somewhere in the DCCU slate.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops, but would you be keen to see Mad Max’s George Miller finally get to tackle the Big, Blue Boy Scout?
