With Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford confirmed to be returning for a fifth Indiana Jones movie, one person who won’t be back is George Lucas.

Lucas has worked as an executive producer and helped put together the story for the four Indy movies to date, having worked on Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, not to mention some of the Indy-based TV spin-offs.

The lack of Lucas was expected where Indiana Jones 5 was concerned, and this has now been confirmed by Crystal Skull writer David Koepp. Speaking to Collider, Koepp said, “He’s not , to my knowledge. I’ve had no contact with him.”

Of course, George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney back in 2012, and didn’t even have any sort of involvement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Where Indiana Jones 5 is concerned, Koepp revealed that he’s currently working on the script and that the hope is to start production on the movie next October. At present, the film has a July 19, 2019 release date penciled in. As well as Steven Spielberg again directing, John Williams will be providing the score, and Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will be serving as producers.
