George Kosana, the memorable, ammo-toting, hat-wearing Sheriff McClelland delivering the iconic line asked by a reporter if the living dead were slow moving replying, “Yeah, they’re dead. They’re all messed up” in George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead has passed away at the age of 81.

Mr. Kosana invested $600.00 with nine other investors to begin filming the classic horror movie whose budget finally came to $114,000.

Mr. Kosana also appeared in Mr. Romero’s seldom seen, romantic comedy There’s Always Vanilla in 1971 and reprised his role as Sheriff McClelland in Living Dead in 2012 with his final appearance in his good friend John Russo’s film that he wrote and co-directed My Uncle John Is A Vampire.
