Major genre book publishers Gollancz, Harper Voyager and Angry Robot have all announced that they will be allowing the general public to submit unpublished novels to their editors.

Gollancz, the world’s oldest imprint of Science Fiction and Fantasy, announced that it would open a submissions window at its recent Gollancz Fest event. The window will be open from 4th to 22nd January 2016, and they will only consider physical copies of SF, Fantasy, Horror or YA Crossover novels that have not been published previously in any way. More details can be found on their website.

Harper Voyager are the genre imprint of Harper Collins, and they have also announced that they will accept submissions. They are after full-length fantasy, science fiction, and horror novels. They are especially interested in Urban Fantasy and Military Sci-Fi. The window of opportunity is very small, running from November 2nd 2015 to November 6th 2015.  More details can found on the Harper Voyager Submissions page.

Angry Robot is one of the most well respected producers of genre literature today, with a very high number of critically acclaimed and award winning creators to their credit. They are looking for finished, unpublished, original works of speculative or fantastical fiction which are about 70-150,000 words long. They specifically want novels aimed at an adult audience and are very interested from those who feel that their voice is not usually heard in genre circles. More information can be found on their Open Door page.

Publishers usually only consider manuscripts sent to them from established authors or via an agent, although this is not the first time that various publishers have opened submissions windows during the winter months. It is starting to become a regular thing that as the nights draw in and people try their hand at writing the next big thing, that publishers take an interest in potential new talent. If this trend continues, it may very well become a new tradition. STARBURST wishes everyone who submits work to these fine people the best of luck.
