Progression is all well and good, but for many there remains a special bond with what’s come before, be it music, art, books or, in this case, video games. Though the medium is still relatively young (domestically availably since the seventies) the changes have been profound. Classic games can be downloaded straight to your current console or mobile phone, the fondness for retro isn’t going to fade, quite the contrary.

Innex INC. have announced the release of the Super Retro Trio, allowing gamers to play Nes, Snes and Genesis games on one handy console. This gives them a one up on the Retro Duo. While originally intended for a 2013 release (having been first announced at E3 2013) controller mapping problems led to delays.

The console itself looks strangely familiar, a chimera of Nintendo’s passed, but there’s something comforting about the boxy shape, the controller ports and the buttons. There are plenty of Gameboy emulators’ available for PC, but the current Super Retro Adapter will enable players to see there Gameboy Advanced games up on their flat screens.

For a tidy $69.99/£42.89 the crafty console could be yours. It’s not a bad price, and a possible tide-me-over before savings are enough for that PS4.

Expect a mid-March release.
