Well that didn’t take long. SONY have come out all guns blazing in the next-gen console war. So much so in fact they may have won this thing before it really starts.

Firstly the price. Shortly after Microsoft had announced their starting price for the Xbox One – £429 ($499 in US) SONY have announced at E3 that their next-gen console, the PS4 will be clocking in a full £79 cheaper at £350 ($399 in US).

Whilst that’s a lot of money, and will certainly convince those on the fence, most die-hard enthusiasts will understand that money alone isn’t enough to convince the hardcore loyalists to convert to a rival. The next point may well be though…

SONY have confirmed that unlike the Xbox One the PS4 will not need a connection, intermittent or otherwise, to the internet in order to play games. You will need to have a PS+ account to play online (much the same as the Xbox One), but for an old school, anti-social gamer such as myself, it’s appreciated that SONY have given us the choice. Now for the coup de grace…

SONY have also confirmed that second hand games (or just one your friend has brought over from their house) will be able to play on the PS4 in exactly the same way they always have done, no deactivation codes, no admin fees, in fact they’ve produced this little number to explain the process in full…
