Mighty Number 9 News

With three days to go the Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 has broken yet another stretch goal on Kickstarter. Having more than tripled its original goal with a current total of $2,766,547 the title is now to include an online co-optional mode between two of the protagonists Beck and Call. Look, it’s by Keiji Inafune of course there was going to be a pun with their names.

Rather than just going through each stage in turn however, the co-op mode will be a challenge mode for players and more difficult than the standard levels. Something which will likely extend the life of the game and offer an opportunity for players to test their skills against. Given some of the issues with other multiplayer platformers, looking at you New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it is unknown how well this will stack up. If problems like players being able to collide with one another and send their allies into bottomless pits will be a problem or if friendly fire will be a possibility while fighting.

The Kickstarter still has $133,000 (or if you’re in the UK £82,434) to go until its next target of an intro stage, and much further to go if we’re to see it on consoles. That said this is still a great addition and the usual last minute rush with backing these projects is still likely to happen.
