Mass Effect is widely considered to be the finest video game trilogy. It was a ground-breaking and interactive piece of affecting storytelling that took player choices into account and, above all, was really fun to play. It made you laugh, it made you cry and it made you toss your controller in anger.

BioWare is discussing the possibility of bringing the franchise to the X-Box One and the Playstation 4. The news was released via a tweet from the general manager of the developer’s Edmonton and Montral studios, Aaryn Flyn. Although it’s being discussed internally, nothing concrete has been decided upon.

A re-mastered next-gen release of the game would be, for many, a welcomed addition, ironing some of the kinks and bugs, but time is really the issue. Will people still care?

There’s a new game in the works, but BioWare don’t want the as-of-yet untitled release to be thought of as Mass Effect 4, most probably as it will be vastly different to its predecessors and a departure in narrative and style. Whatever’s coming, it’s going to be a good few years for Mass Effect fans.
