The Kickstarter for the Mars Attacks – The Miniatures Game has been fully funded only 14 minutes after launch.

Nottingham based games company Mantic announced their intention to produce a 28mm tabletop war game based on the classic trading cards produced by Topps last March. This launch has been keenly anticipated by certain wargamers and sci-fi fans, so it is not that surprising that the modest $50,000 goal was reached so quickly. Mars Attacks – The Miniatures Game is part of the same franchise that inspired the popular 1996 Tim Burton movie of the same name. It is a tactical miniatures game with story lead elements. This means that in addition to moving toy soldiers about and rolling dice, a dramatic element is introduced via special cards.

The basic set includes 20 models, a gaming mat, rules, cards and scenery. The Kickstarter also includes various bonuses and the basic deal includes additional add-ons that can be specified by the sponsor. As is usual for this sort of thing, there is a promise of extra goodies becoming available should the project reach certain stretch goals. These include giant insect models and ultra-rare Topps trading cards.
