After confirming some time ago that we would be seeing more chapters beyond the Blood Angels in Space Hulk, Full Control has revealed the first screenshot of the space marines. While only displaying one of the several chapters considered it confirms that the sons of Russ, the Space Wolves, will be making an appearance.

This will mark the first time the Space Wolves will have been a part of any variant of Space Hulk since Second Edition. Even then they were only included in one-shot scenarios in the White Dwarf magazine under the name Fangs of Fenris. This expansion shares that name and rather than being a simple skin change Full Control is offering up an entirely new campaign. This campaign will make use of the Space Wolves’ more ferocious assault style and armoury with the inclusion of Frost Blades and Wolf Claws already being mentioned.

Full Control’s CEO Tomas Hentschel had this to say in a press release: “When it came to selecting the first expansion chapter for Space Hulk we felt that the introduction of the Space Wolves would be both a great addition to the game, and a nod to the fact that our studio is based in the heart of Scandinavia – the Viking kingdoms of the past”. Further specifying why he added: “Devastatingly ferocious in attack and immovably resolute in defence, the Wolf Guard will be a fantastic addition to the Space Hulk universe introducing new gameplay styles and methodology into the classic turn based action.”

Space Hulk Fangs of Fenris

This will go some way to building upon what was already there and convincing sceptics that this is more than a carbon copy of the board game. While some appreciated that it did not attempt to alter details from the previous edition of Space Hulk, others felt that the content was lacking. The main criticism being that they felt it did not make full use of the idea behind a video game adaptation.

It is as of yet unknown what story elements will be added to the title or what additions will be given to the genestealers in the future, only that cultists are unfortunately unlikely. No release date has yet been given to the public. Though some fans are predicting a late 2013 release this is apparently unfounded. Fangs of Fenris follows on from the free content the developer offered up as a patch a few days ago. With Full Control giving a separate three mission campaign known as Messenger of Purgatory added in addition to previous scenarios.
