Despite the lukewarm reception of Diablo III, Blizzard is pressing ahead with its plans to port the game to the Playstation 4 with its efforts to win back the crowds. Despite this being a far older title than many would expect for a next generation, the new instalment of the game is set to have entirely new features. Reported on by Polygon, a few of these new details have been revealed to the public. Along with the ability to port the save file from your character on Playstation 3 should you have it, it also features a unique form of monster which hunts down the player and their friends.

Emerging during special events, a hellish monster will emerge and attempt to kill the player. Should they fail to bring it down, it will level up Highlander style and proceed to go after the next person on that profile’s friends list. It will keep going, emerging at random with the name “’s Bane” and keep killing until someone finally brings it down.

At the moment nothing has been revealed to explain what procedures, if any, have been put in place in order to prevent players encountering endless streams of these monsters. However, while certain ideas are still being discussed, it has already been stated that the monsters will “retire” if they become too powerful to truly defeat. Whatever the flaws though, it’s definitely a step up in terms of using internet connectivity than Always-On DRM.

This isn’t the only ability to interact with friends however, as picking up a Legendary item will spawn a bonus item of similar importance which can be sent off to a friend for them to pick up. How this this will affect player attitudes towards loot hunting drive behind playing the game is as of yet uncertain however.

In terms of hardware, a few points have been revealed such as the fact the game will run at 60 fps and 1080p resolution. Senior level designer Matthew Berger has also been quoted stating the team will be looking at implementing Playstation Vita Remote Play, though nothing solid has been confirmed yet. It has also been stated that the game will have better graphical fidelity and shaders.

Beyond this, it’s expected that the port will keep the improvements made in the Playstation 3 version.
