Games manufacturer Wizkids have announced major changes to their DC Heroclix miniature battles game, by altering the way it supplies components for its specially organised competitions. Heroclix is a popular collectible miniatures game that allows players to pit characters from the DC comic books against each other. Many of the more collectible and interesting models are now only available by attending specially organised tournaments .
This summer’s organised play storyline is based around the Green Lanterns and is called War Of Light. The special events will include a 96-figure set that you can only get through tournament participation, meaning that if you don’t turn up to your local games store at the right time, you’re unlikely to get the models you want. The tournament itself will begin in June and will be made of 6 events, each lasting a month. The set is also split into two discrete waves, each containing different models, with the second wave coming out in month four.
A more readily available set, DC HeroClix: War of Light--Sinestro Corps War Scenario Packs, will come out on May 14th and be available via regular channels. This set will include chase items such as dice with custom logos, two maps, the Green Lantern Ring 3D object, and the Shield Construct 3D object
The new collection looks likely to include such diverse characters such as rage fueled anger kitty Dex-Star (above) and ridiculous blue space elephant Brother Warth. As always, certain models and items will only be available by actually winning a tournament, making the organised play events potentially very geeky high stakes games.
