As Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag looms ever closer to its release date, it seems that Ubisoft has opted to spill the beans about its upcoming DLC as well.

Labelled Freedom Cry, the DLC will follow another of Black Flag’s characters rather than protagonist Edward Kenway, this time its his first mate Adéwalé. Born into slavery on the French colony of Sant-Domingue, now known as Haiti, the DLC will see Adéwalé returning over a decade after the events of Black Flag. As trailers have shown, much of the DLC will focus upon the treatment of slaves at this time and the harsh conditions, which they lived and worked in through Adéwalé’s eyes.

It has been confirmed that Adéwalé is an assassin during this time, and that he was forced to return, thanks to being shipwrecked with neither crew nor weapons to rely upon. The DLC appears to be advertised largely as a solo outing with additional changes and weapons beyond those used in Black Flag. Chief among these is the blunderbuss, which will be handled very differently from before.

It is currently unknown what other changes there will be to the title; with the game being isolated on a single colony the addition of ship-based combat is uncertain. What is known however is that the DLC itself will be three hours in length and that Ubisoft has touted the unique additions beyond the main game. It will be available with a season pass on all consoles at launch. Those without will be able to purchase the DLC on November the 22nd, the end of the same month in which Black Flag is being released.
