Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has added four more actors to its core cast. Joining Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Emma D’Arcy are now joined by Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
Based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood – a companion book to the A Song of Ice and Fire series – House of the Dragon is said to be set 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones and will tell the story of Daenery’s ancestors in a time when House Targaryen faces its downfall. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’s Steve Toussaint has been cast as Lord Corlys Velaryon, otherwise known as ‘The Sea Snake’; Nurse Jackie’s Eve Best will in turn play his wife, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, a dragon rider and the 'Queen Who Never Was', who was passed over as heir to the Targaryen throne in favour of her cousin.
Meanwhile, Rhys Ifans has been cast as Otto Hightower, Hand to King Viserys Targaryen (Considine). Ex Machina actress Sonoya Mizuno joins the cast as Mysaria, a trusted ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen (Smith), the heir to King Viserys.
House of the Dragon is still slated for a 2022 release, it was recently confirmed.
