Following this year’s six-episode return for The X Files, many longtime fans of the series wondered if we’d ever see Mulder and Scully rearing their heads again at some point in the future. The “Event Series”, as it was dubbed, frustrated many and wasn’t as well received by fans as FOX had hoped. Well, it looks as if the never-ending search to find out if the truth really is out there could well be continuing…

As reported by Deadline, FOX Entertainment’s David Madden has confirmed that there are indeed plans to bring The X Files back for more, with any new season to be made up of eight to ten episodes this time out. Speaking at TCA, Madden teased, “We would love to do another season. There are significant talks with all three principals. We are working hard, and would like to get a new season soon.” Those three principals are creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

When asked about how the mixed reaction to the most recent season would creatively affect any new season, Madden said, “I actually think the season was strong. The episodes represent Chris and his team’s vision, and we will take our cue from them.” On that topic, FOX TV Group’s Dana Walden added, “The show was off the air for a very long time. It was introduced to new viewers, and the writers had the challenge of filling in the mythology. Going forward, there won’t be the same obligation to reset the series.”

Could we see yet more to come from The X Files? Stranger things have certainly happened…

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops.
