A live-action adaptation of Y: The Last Man has been a long-time coming, and now it finally looks to be on the way.
The Hollywood Reporter has word that FX is moving forward with a TV adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s hugely popular comic series. Vaughn himself is to help with the series, and the search is now underway for other writers and a director.
In the past, many a person has tried to get a big screen movie of Y: The Last Man made, but development hell has been the result for all of these efforts.
Premise-wise, the comic book series follows Yorick Brown, the only living creature with a Y chromosome to survive a huge catastrophe. Along with his ever-cool monkey Ampersand, Yorick begins to work with a government operative, 355, in order to work out what’s gone on and why he’s managed to survive. The series itself came to an end in 2008 after a 60-issue run that began in 2002.
As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
